Charts, tabs & stock cards
Why Does a Chart Look Different From the Stock's Price Chart?
A weighted index-movement chart and a raw stock-price chart measure different things and may use different baselines.
What problem does this solve?
The main weighted chart and a stock's own chart appear to disagree.
Quick answer
They plot different quantities. The weighted chart reflects a selected-basket analytical measure, while the stock chart plots one security's prices.
Steps
- Read each chart title and vertical-axis units.
- Match their time intervals and market session before comparing shapes.
- The combined chart estimates S&P basket movement against previous closes; the stock chart uses one security's prices.
- Compare a stock's SP500 contribution with the basket Net rather than comparing the two lines point for point.
What you should see
Different shapes or axis values are understandable once the metric and baseline are named.
If it still doesn't work
If the legend and axes do not explain the difference, send cleared screenshots with timestamps, symbol, view, and app version.
