Market data connections
Why Are My Credentials Not Working?
Check that the key pair belongs to the selected Alpaca environment, remains active, and has the market-data access your account requires. Do not send the key or secret to support.
What problem does this solve?
The desktop app cannot verify the Alpaca key pair or connect to market data.
Quick answer
Check the selected Alpaca environment, whether the key pair is active, and the account's market-data entitlement. Never send either credential to support.
Steps
- Confirm that the API key ID and secret belong to the Alpaca account and environment selected in the desktop connection dialog.
- Use the dialog's Test connection action and read its exact result.
- Check Alpaca's account status and current data permissions on Alpaca's own site.
- If the key was revoked or exposed, rotate it with Alpaca and enter the replacement locally in the desktop app.
What you should see
A successful test confirms the pair for the selected environment. Saving and starting the live stream are separate actions in the current connection workflow.
If it still doesn't work
Record the app version, selected environment, and redacted error text. Contact Support without including the key, secret, account number, or an uncropped credentials screenshot.
