Market data connections
How Do I Test My Market-Data Connection?
The Alpaca API Connection dialog includes a Test connection action and a connection status. A successful test is separate from saving or replacing credentials.
What problem does this solve?
You want to tell whether the app accepted your Alpaca credential pair and started a data connection.
Quick answer
Open Connect → API Key… and select Test connection. Read the dialog status; a successful credential check is distinct from saving a new pair.
Steps
- Open Connect → API Key… in the desktop app.
- Select Test connection and wait for the status message.
- If the pair is verified but not saved, select Save. If credentials are already saved, use the current dialog's status and last-verified details.
- Return to the main workspace and compare the connection indicator with the market-session label.
What you should see
A successful active stream is reported as Connected. The dialog can also show a verified-but-not-saved result or an error explaining that the connection was not confirmed.
If it still doesn't work
Check the selected Alpaca environment, credential validity, market-data access, and network. Share the error text with support only after removing keys, secrets, and account details.
