Why Are Some Bid or Ask Values Missing?
Bid and ask availability depends on the security, session, provider feed, and the quote data returned to the application.
What problem does this solve?
A stock card displays a price but leaves a bid or ask blank.
Quick answer
A last trade and a bid/ask quote are separate data events. Quote availability depends on feed coverage, symbol, session, and account entitlement.
Steps
- Check the market-session indicator and when the affected symbol last received an update.
- Confirm the selected Alpaca feed and the account's permissions.
- Compare the same bid or ask field for the same symbol on another screen using the same feed and time.
- Note whether the issue affects one symbol or the entire basket.
What you should see
A blank quote field can be distinguished from a disconnected feed or a missing last trade; it must not be read as a zero-dollar quote.
If it still doesn't work
Report the symbol, field, feed, session, time, and app version. Do not send credentials.
